My husband and I decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary in Los Angeles this year. We wanted magic and that's what we found. The Magic Castle Hotel at 7025 Franklin Avenue is a three minute stroll from the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard. It's close to all the action yet surprisingly quiet.

I was in Carmel last week, and I saw The Butterfly House, probably the most amazing beach house in the world. And guess what, it's on the market! The Butterfly House is one of only five or six truly beach-front properties in Carmel and on beautiful Scenic Drive. And in Carmel I learned that Dick Cheney seriously looked at buying this house at one time as a second home!

The only thing better than driving up the radiant Golden State coast is doing it on a day when your eyes should be firmly planted in email and spreadsheets.  Despite my tragic lack of a doctor's note, Mom and I decided to play hooky one beautiful May day and trek to on

My husband often travels to San Francisco on business. A few years ago when his favorite Italian restaurant there closed, he mourned. Since 1995, The Stinking Rose restaurant in LA has served up delightful meals that rely heavily on one ingredient: garlic. Whether it's 40-clove garlic chicken where the name warns of the potential garlicky-ness or the filet mignon that sounds innocent, but packs a big garlic punch, you will find the stinky rose in every dish they serve. Garlic has been called the stinky rose since antiquity, but no one knows why as the garlic plant is in the lily family, and not related to roses at all.

A free weekend, a surprisingly affordable airfare offer, and low winter hotel rates came together to make a fabulous escape from the ordinary. In an unprecedented move, my husband and I left miserably cold Dallas at noon one Saturday and returned at eight o'clock the next evening. Our destination: Los Angeles. Our goal: to warm up, have fun, and try a restaurant we'd heard about. Our conclusion: mini-vacations are great-we'll be scanning the airlines' weekend fare sales for other opportunities.

It's not often that as women we take time to flex our creative muscle or expand our repertoire of activities that nurture the soul.  Smart gal and entrepreneur, Bev Sanders understood that women want both physical and artistic outlets and set about to design programs to do just that.
