A long weekend in Seattle allowed me the opportunity to sample some of the city's great dining options.  An added bonus  - halibut season had just begun - so all restaurants had special dishes to feature the fish on their menu.

Stephen Pyles has opened several restaurants in the Dallas area over the past 25-plus years, winning several awards, but his restaurant carrying his name is our favorite. Located at 1807 Ross Avenue at St. Paul Street, it's in the heart of the Arts District in Dallas.

Maui, known as the Valley Isle or Magic Isle, is a popular vacation spot with breathtaking views over the ocean. Each side of the island has it's own style - and weather.

The island of Lana'i, one of the primary Hawaiian Islands, boasts breathtaking views, two challenging golf courses, one town center and sport hunting.

My husband and I decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary in Los Angeles this year. We wanted magic and that's what we found. The Magic Castle Hotel at 7025 Franklin Avenue is a three minute stroll from the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard. It's close to all the action yet surprisingly quiet.

The Little Owl at 90 Bedford Street in the West Village is a restaurant success story. A small place with excellent service and terrific food in a charming space-the owners make everything appear so simple that you may be tempted to launch your own little cafe. But wait, there's some magic going on here. Service has just the right balance of warmth and city cool and the menu has been honed to a small but wide selection of great dishes.

French food is tricky. Too often it's overdone: over-sauced, over-cute, over-small. But when it's done right, there's no more satisfying meal. Le Gigot, a tiny place in New York's Greenwich Village does French bistro food just right.

In late November I saw a Groupon for an exciting 'Horse Drawn Sleigh Ride and Hot Cocoa Experience in the Rocky Mountains'. It looked like fun, but I didn't plan on buying it until my daughter said she thought it would be a wonderful thing to do with her children when they came to visit for the holidays. Since I don't deny my grandchildren anything like that, I bought the Groupon for 4 people.

After a wonderful drive down to Tucson, we were eager to get started on our visit. Early the first morning, we took a ranger hike in Sabino Canyon Recreation Area. Admission is by the day or week, but the best deal is if you are over 62 because you can buy the National Park Lifetime Membership for only $10 and itʼs good for 2 people at any National Park in the U.S. Sabino Canyon, located on the northeast side of Tucson, is a well loved hiking/biking/running/walking/photography destination due to the outstanding scenery, well-maintained trail system, wildlife viewing, and plenty of restrooms.

Living in Colorado is fabulous and I donʼt want to live anywhere else, but sometimes the winter months seem to drag on a little too long. So, for the past 2 years, my husband and I have driven to Tucson for a little mid-winter warmth and relaxation. We've made the drive a big part of the adventure.

It's winter in the rocky mountains.  The mountains glisten with freshly fallen snow, and the skiers and boarders have migrated to the welcoming slopes.  Aspen/Snowmass is reputed to be one of the top family winter vacation destinations in North America, a reputation well-deserved.

Just in time for the New Year 2012, the weather warms up in the Aspen-Snowmass ski areas.  Neither the temps nor the snowfall are conducive to great skiing. It was colder in early December than it is right now.

Close your eyes and imagine a trip to New York City. If you're like most people you visualize the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center covered in dollar bills. Visiting New York can get very pricy. All those luscious dinners out and high-end hotels eat into your travel budget. However, with some clever planning you can spend your whole trip free-wheeling around New York. Get out your sturdy walking shoes and some sunblock--there's lots of ground to cover.

New York City's Times Square. Can you think of a more romantic way to spend New Year's Eve? It's fun to do if you're prepared, patient, and warmly dressed. It's not the only thing to do in Manhattan on December 31 though. The city will be hopping.

Tucked under the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge, at 279 Water Street, is a small red brick building that has been sitting there since 1794. The oldest serving tavern in New York City, it's been a food and beer shop, a restaurant, a pirate bar and a brothel. It hasn't been a brothel for a while now. In 1979, a young couple purchased the building, remodeled the space and opened the Bridge Café.
