Christian Louboutin was in Dallas working with me to fit models and put the finishing touches on a Stanley Korshak fashion show for the Leukemia Society. It was 1998 and to the best of our knowledge, no one had ever produced a shoe fashion show in America before. We were making shoe history together.

Christian Louboutin was recently quoted as saying that about 3,000 women worldwide each have over 500 pairs of his shoes. But the prize for top customer has to go to Danielle Steel who owns at least 6,000 pairs of his fabulous red soled heels. In related news, Mariah Carey had to build a special closet to house her 1000 pairs of shoes.

One of my earliest memories is throwing a sandal out the window of a moving car. I didn't like wearing shoes and the car window was open. Imagine my mother's frustration when we arrived at our destination. My relationship with shoes has had its ups and downs-marred by violent acts on both our parts from that first shoe incident until the present.

My name is Katherine Sloan, but my friends call me "The Women's Studies Major," because I notice sexism and use the word "empower" often. I became a feminist in high-school after experiencing the controversy from my newspaper editorial about our cultural tolerance of the misogynist lyrics of mainstream rap music.

Fashion is a classic art form that has the power to transform us. Like our human bodies, it is always changing, slightly elusive, and extremely seductive. It has the potential to express our deeper selves and for me, like many, it has become a religion.

The playwright, Neil LaBute, deftly delves beneath the surface with his trilogy of 'beauty plays,' all currently showing in rotation at the Wyly Theater in Dallas. For the characters in the three plays, surface beauty harms both in its absences and presence. All three plays deal with society's preoccupation with physical beauty: judgments made, spoken and unspoken; the subtle methods of manipulation around beauty; and how physical attributes are both asset and liability.

Last week Harriet and I decided to take a little shopping trip to see what kind of deals we could score at Northpark Mall. Before meeting with Harriet, I decided to stop at Buffalo Exchange to sell a few things that I no longer wanted or needed.

I love lists. I really do. The top 10 new restaurants or shops in town. The 1,000 places you have to visit in your life time. One of my favorites - the top 100 books everyone needs to read. And if I can take that list and put it in a spreadsheet and compare it to other lists, I'm even happier.

A healthy wardrobe helps inspire you to live the life of your dreams, or for those more practically minded, to do what you want to do in life. Managing your wardrobe isn't always easy and unexpected occasions arise that cause style strain if you're not prepared.

1. Know what you have:

Clean out your closet before you go shopping. Give away, throw away or contribute anything that doesn't fit, flatter or feel right.

Karen Noseff, founder and designer of Fortune Denim Jeans, is a young woman with big plans. And she makes those plans come to life in spectacular ways. She grew up with a love of singing, dancing and art, but her parents urged her to focus on her studies and find a career with security and stability. Though she wanted to perform and design, she ended up in law school.

Sometimes it seems we spend forever in our closets staring at possible outfits. A new study reveals that, in fact, we squander almost a year of our lives deciding what to wear. From 14 minutes on weekends to 20 minutes before a big night out, that's a lot of wasted time. We try at least two outfits on average each morning before work. Wouldn't you rather have a leisurely latte?
color of style

After attending a presentation by David Zyla at Saks last week on his new book, The Color of Style, I just had to leave with the book in hand. It seems everyone felt that way, as the books were nearly sold out by the end of the night. Zyla’s philosophy on style sounds simple: wear the colors that look the best on you, and avoid colors that are not flattering.

Dig out that fabulous red dress. Pull on those red cowboy boots. Grab that flashy red leather jacket. Today, February 5, 2010, is National Wear Red Day®. It's not just for Valentine's Day anymore. I may not look like Christina Hendricks wearing a gorgeous form fitting Carolina Herrera red dress, but I can show my support for heart disease awareness in my own way!
