South America amazed us. The beauty of the countryside, the flavors of the food and wine, and the kindness of the people left us wanting to return. Here are some of the images we will never forget.

By day five of our 8 day trip to the Galapagos Islands, we had over 1000 photos each. We had a tough time picking our favorites and may have to do three or four of these photo journals. If you'd like to see more, just give us a call, we're happy to do slideshows for anyone who asks!

We flew into San Cristobal, the most convenient airport in the Galapagos Islands, early in the morning. Sea lions greeted us at the dock where we waited to meet our guides. The first day adventure started immediately.  We rode the pangas, those small rubber boats that shuttle passengers to and from the cruise ship, into Wreck Bay for snorkeling on Playa Ochoa.

Buenos Aires is a revelation. It's Chicago without the cold: Paris without the attitude. Buildings that would be at home in any European capital straddle some of the world's widest avenues. Avenida 9 de Julio, at 459 feet wide, takes forever to cross.

Have you ever wanted something for so long that once you get it, it feels like maybe it was all a dream?  When I was in high school we studied Charles Darwin and his Origin of the Species.  I wasn't so much taken with his finches or even the theory of evolution, but I was fascinated by the giant tortoises and always wanted to see one on the island where they lived.

Our South American cruise in honor of my mother's 90th birthday continued from Buenos Aries to Montevideo, Uruguay.  The only information I'd known previously about Uruguay was the name of the capital, Montevideo, learned in a junior high class that served no useful purpose unless I appear on "Jeopardy!" one day.
