We love winter weather, but it does add greater challenge to our ability to pack light. Summer clothes do tend to be lighter, but never fear.

If you have friends and relatives like ours who always want to return every one of their gifts, before you embark on your holiday shopping check the stores' return policies!  One would think we'd know this already, but even experienced shoppers sometimes get caught empty handed - or in this case, unhappily full handed.

Runway shows, designers, stylists and fashion bloggers will be blasting the full fall fashion story over the next few weeks.  It can get a bit overwhelming.  Our advice -- look those over, and take into account the fact that stores will promote fashion trends based upon their buys. Style is a very personal experience.  Save your money for those items that make you look and feel fabulous.

Temperatures are falling and our summer togs just aren't doing the trick. It's time for warmer gear. Harriet, Judy and Tamara met Roshawnda Foster, sales person extraordinaire, in the Saks Fifth Avenue dressing room for a preview of the freshest fall fashions. Clothes lined the walls, accessories were piled high and plenty of shoes sat there to complement the latest looks.

It's after Labor Day, and time to put away your white pants and shoes ...... or is it?  There are lots of "rules" we grew up with that no longer apply. In fact, the styles coming down the runway and seen on the street, lead one to wonder if there are any fashion rules left.

A Girls Weekend is perfect for laughing, crying and cleansing the soul.  My three BFFs joined me for the weekend in Chatham.  We are a young version of the Golden Girls - lots of laughs, a bit of banter and always honest with each other.  We cooked, drank wine, walked and shared our best advice.

The luckiest women this season are those who kept their clothes from the seventies. From high-waisted flared jeans to boho tops and platform shoes, we have reruns from that era showing up everywhere.

Fashion gives us lots of choices. With each purchase we choose to be romantic and lacy, bold and bright, tailored and timeless or salty and free spirited. Many of us grope to find a fashion voice that rings true for us. When making financially sound shopping decisions, it's important to distinguish between classics and trends. We have some tips that may help.

Fashion is a classic art form that has the power to transform us. Like our human bodies, it is always changing, slightly elusive, and extremely seductive. It has the potential to express our deeper selves and for me, like many, it has become a religion.
packing lite
Wednesday, May 5th, 2010
What’s the true measure of a happy traveler? Speed and grace. A girl just can’t have fun if she’s weighted down by heavy suitcases bulging with wayward fabrics and uncooperative shoes. The first rule of packing for a trip this season is layering. The second rule is fabric content.

Last week Harriet and I decided to take a little shopping trip to see what kind of deals we could score at Northpark Mall. Before meeting with Harriet, I decided to stop at Buffalo Exchange to sell a few things that I no longer wanted or needed.

Women in the United States control and spend $4 trillion annually, which makes up two-thirds of our gross national product. Of that, $200 billion is spent in the fashion industry. Much of that spending is done in hopes of lifting ones' spirits and stemming the tide of emotional sadness and fear that creeps into everyone's life in challenging times. Unfortunately, spending sprees to lift one's spirits more often result in even greater anxiety, guilt and fear.
lists
Tuesday, April 6th, 2010
I love lists. I really do. The top 10 new restaurants or shops in town. The 1,000 places you have to visit in your life time. One of my favorites - the top 100 books everyone needs to read. And if I can take that list and put it in a spreadsheet and compare it to other lists, I'm even happier.

A healthy wardrobe helps inspire you to live the life of your dreams, or for those more practically minded, to do what you want to do in life. Managing your wardrobe isn't always easy and unexpected occasions arise that cause style strain if you're not prepared.

1. Know what you have:

Clean out your closet before you go shopping. Give away, throw away or contribute anything that doesn't fit, flatter or feel right.

fashion finance
Friday, March 19th, 2010
Fashion and Finance have more in common than first meets the eye. There are people who naturally balance their checkbooks and think nothing of living within budget. Some have the instinctive ability to be in style no matter how fashion trends buffet them. Others of us take classes, read books, seek out gurus, and sweat the details.
