Because it the Easter season, there was tons of beautiful Colorado Lamb in the grocery stores around here. I decided to try my hand at making Arrosticini Abruzzi (Skewered Marinated Lamb Tidbits), like the ones we had in Carunchio the night of our wine tasting. It worked out very well, but next time I will cut the meat a little smaller and get the heat up a more on the grill.

Potato Salad

Potato salad is the perfect accompaniment to a summer picnic.  There are many styles of salad prepared with potatoes as the base and each of us has a favorite.  I prefer mine made with red potatoes (skins on) and with a touch of mustard to add a little zip.  After some experimenting I have perfected my recipe.

Seeing that it's springtime and everything is just so GREEN... Pesto came to mind. It reminds me of this time of year when basil starts to take advantage of all this sunshine and grows like crazy. Enjoy!

Pesto... the word comes from the Italian verb pestare which means to crush, to trample, to pound.

We are at the point in our marriage where the small gestures count more than extravagance in showing affection. Brewing coffee on Saturday morning, reading the paper together in our comfy kitchen chairs covered in terry robes, pointing out the stories that mean something to us, and occasionally reading them to each other. Dancing in the living room to a favorite song on iTunes, the comfortable and simple things. Cooking together in our kitchen, then sitting at the little square glass table with our simple meal and a glass of wine is another such experience.

The goal in pairing wine with a specific dish is to find a match that makes both the food and the wine show their best stuff.

The game and meat marinated in red wine and herbs in Stephanie Chambers' Dutch Treat is screaming to be paired with a big, bold, tannic red wine.

Cool off your kitchen! It's time for a picnic. Summertime cooking tends to be lighter, easier, and more transportable--perfect for eating outside.
